Due to our continuing expansion we are always looking for additional Physical Training Instructors (PTI's) to join us on a part time basis in Cardiff, Bristol and Newport for fitness classes and events.

To qualify you must be Ex or Serving Armed Forces and hold a recognised fitness qualification (military or civilian) and /or adventure training qualifications eg MLT / SPA etc

Nathan Gibbons

Nathan was born in Newport, South Wales in 1979. He joined the Army at 17 with the Royal Regiment of Wales. During his time with the regiment he travelled to places such as Germany, Poland, Canada and Belize and served in operational theatres such as Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Kosovo. He left the forces after 8 years as a Corporal to pursue a career in Close Protection. After 3 years doing this and various other roles in the security industry he decided he wanted to get back into the fitness industry and joined the Military Preparation College in Cardiff as a physical training instructor. After a year in this post he took over the position of Operations Manager for British Military Fitness


Huw Lewis MBE

Huw was born in 1968 in Dolgellau, North West Wales. At the age of 17, he joined The Royal Welch Fusiliers, where he served in many countries around the world including Berlin, Canada, Brunei, Hong Kong, Gibraltar, Cyprus, Norway, Bavaria, Belgium, West and East Germany. He also saw extensive active service in Northern Ireland and Bosnia.
Huw enjoyed an exciting and diverse career reaching the rank of Sergeant. During his 15 years he held the following posts: Physical Training Instructor, Photographer, Weapon Instructor, All Arms Commando,
Master Sniper and Recruiting Sergeant.
In 1999 Huw formed the Military Preparation College in Cardiff, in order to assist young people in joining the armed forces. Since this time, the college has trained over 750 young men and women. In 2001 he received an MBE in recognition of the above work, and also the money the college was raising for charity.


Geraint Hampton

Geraint was born in Cardiff, South Wales in 1983. After leaving college in 2002 he joined the Royal Engineers. During his time he has served all over the world on various exercises, recently in Belize and on operations in Iraq. Geraint has enjoyed a successful career in the military, reaching the rank of Lance Corporal. He has also had the opportunity to represent his regiment in various running events, snowboarding and offshore sailing.
Geraint will be leaving the Army shortly and coming home to Cardiff, where he plans to develop his career outside of the military.

Dom Pascoe

Dom was born in Chililabombwe, Zambia in 1974 and moved to Maesteg in 1990. After completing a degree in Archaeology at University College London he attended Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, gaining a Commission into the Royal Regiment of Wales in 1997.
Dom has enjoyed a varied and challenging 10 years of Infantry service, which has included being an Officer of the Guard on ceremonial duties in London, a Platoon Commander in Northern Ireland, an Armoured Infantry Platoon Commander in Germany, an instructor Platoon Commander at the Army Foundation College Harrogate, the Battle Group Intelligence Officer in Pristina, Kosovo, a Brigade Operations Staff Officer in Kuwait and Iraq and the Adjutant at Army Training Regiment Bassingbourn. Dom has also been fortunate enough to have travelled extensively on training exercises and expeditions to countries including Guyana, Brazil, the Czech Republic, the United States, Canada, South Africa, Kenya, Oman, Austria, Italy, France and Cyprus. Dom is a keen long distance marathon runner, road and mountain cyclist and once enjoyed playing rugby, though the years have caught up with him. He left the Army in 2006 as a Captain and is now a full-time house husband. His current ambition is to compete in the 2009 Everest Marathon

Gerrit Bantjes

Born in Johannesburg, Gerrit grew up on the highfeld in South Africa. After school he joined the South African Defence Force, reaching the rank of First Lieutenant. Upon completing his national service he remained in Pretoria where he played rugby for the University of Pretoria for three years. Whilst on tour to Wales in 1997 he fell in love with the country and a young lady, Rebecca. This year they will be celebrating their ninth wedding anniversary. Gerrit works in the wellness industry, managing his own business as a presenter of workshops and seminars on managing wellbeing. He also worked as the fitness and conditioning coach for Cardiff Rugby Club for three seasons but has decided to focus on his business as he intends to speak all over the UK and is keen to develop clients in his home country of South Africa.

Eric Griffith

Eric joined the 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Wales in 1997. As a rifleman he served in theatres such as Northern Ireland and Bosnia. Eric then joined the Reconnaissance Platoon where he trained as a driver and gunner. Eric also served in Kosovo and after 6 years left the Army. Eric now works as fitness instructor and assistant manager in Cardiff.

Denis Waterman

Denis joined the Corps of Royal Engineers in 1991 and is still serving. He has been involved with physical training throughout his career and has played football to combined services level. He has also completed various endurance events and until recently raced mountain bikes. He now enjoys any sport that will give him the od scare such as Paragliding where he has just qualified as a pilot

Andy Edmonds

Andy was born in 1967 in Aldershot, Hampshire, England. At the age of 17 he joined the 3rd Battalion Parachute Regt, where he served 2 tours in Northern Ireland (Derry and Armagh). He also spent time in Kenya, Belize, Denmark, Germany, Iceland and operations in Iraq 1991. During his 9 years he completed PTI training, P Company, and 4 years with Army Corps of Physical Training. He has also completed his Commando Training with the Royal Marines. Andy says “…throughout my career I have also enjoyed my sporting achievements - 3 years Army Welterweight Champion, which led me to compete in international tournaments for my Country. I have also competed in athletics and had professional terms with Reading Football Club. I enjoy helping others to enjoy sport, exercise and physical training as much as I do.”

Daz Fuller

Born in Bristol around 1969 – Darren (Daz) joined the Royal Green Jackets in 1987 and resigned in 2000. Whilst serving Daz reached the rank of ‘acting’ Sergeant and accompanied operational tours in all theatres. Amongst many roles Daz was employed as a physical training instructor and represented his regiment in rugby and boxing. Since ‘hanging up his webbing’ Daz has gained a biology honours degree from the University of Bristol and more recently a postgraduate qualification teaching secondary science to ‘A’ level. Apart from ‘pretending he knows what he is doing’ Daz enjoys decorating cakes using intricate sugar craft, walking in the rain and is a keen parent. Daz’s main interests centre on animal architecture (building and the evolution of intelligence) and broadening his understanding of altruistic behaviours within the animal kingdom.

Ian Bosley

At the age of 25 Ian joined the Army and after many different roles he became a physical training instructor. He represented the Army in Boxing and Golf and after 10 years service he left to pursue a career in the fitness industry. Ian currently works as an instructor in a five star hotel teaching circuits, spin classes and boxing. Ian also trains celebrities that stay in the hotel. To date these include Lee Evans,
Ne-Yo and Ant and Dec.

Rich Nichols

Rich spent 4 years serving in 7RHA. During his time he was operational in Bosnia and trained in many a wonderful location suh as America, Canada, Jordan and Kenya. Throughout his career he many roles including running the Military Transport operation and serving on the Artillery guns. Rich enjoys fitness and actively follows a majority of sports including football and golf.

Scott Cole


Scott served in 3rd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment for 6 years. During this time he was in Heavy Machine Guns Company and served in N. Ireland and Iraq. He played rugby for 3 Para and trained with the US Rangers in Fort Bragg. He is now a Firefighter in Bristol and enjoys mountain biking, trail running and Cross-Fit.

Tom Abbott

At the age of 18 Tom joined the 1st Battalion the Light Infantry where he served in many countries including Germany, Canada, Poland and the UK. He also saw active service in Iraq. Tom enjoyed a diverse career and is currently serving with the 6th Battalion The Rifles where he is furthering his military career.

Rich Sutherland

Rich joined the Royal Marines at the age of 16 and on passing out joined 40 commando in Taunton. During his service he had a variety of roles including machine gunner, rifleman and section 2ic. Rich served in many operational theatres and exercises such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Cyprus, Gibraltar, Oman, Portugal, USA, France, Dubai and Norway. After 7 years service he left the marines to retrain as a physiotherapist. Rich now serves with the Royal Marine Reserves in Bristol where he is a PTI for RMR recruits.

Pete Leak

Pete joined the Royal Green Jackets in 1987. during his time in the army he trained to be a physical training instructor. Pete left the army in 2001 and trained as a personal trainer. Pete currently works on the Military Preparation College in Wrexham getting young people fit for their chosen careers in the military. Pete says he loves taking BMF session because he knows that the clients are working on all of their components of fitness in every session which he feels you wouldn’t get anywhere else

Paul Evans

Paul joined the 1st Battalion the Royal Welch Fusiliers in 1989 he served for 7 years spending a lot of that time in Germany. Paul is a trained gym instructor and says the reason he enjoys taking BMF is nothing gives him more satisfaction than seeing clients coming off of the park exhausted and tired knowing they will sleep well.

Gary Bateman

Gary joined the Royal Artillery and served 8 years spending 3 of them as a Physical Training Instructor. He loves taking BMF because of the interesting people who take part and seeing them move from blue to Green bibs.

Phil Welch

Phil is currently a member of the Royal Engineers. At the moment he is serving as a PTI in a training establishment. He lives in Birkenhead. Phil enjoys taking BMF because he likes meeting like minded new people and finds the bib system makes him a better instructor. He also likes to see the clients improve over the weeks.

Ashley Stratton-Powell

Ashley was in the royal marines as an officer. He has recently started taking BMF in Chester. He enjoys taking BMF classes because he feels its robust outdoor physical training that pushes the clients to new levels and re-enforces motivation.

Sam Austin

 

Sam was born in Tottenham, London in 1981. He joined the Army in 1999 and served for 5 years. During his time he became a Physical Training Instructor and represented his unit in Orienteering, Cross Country, Athletics and Football. Sam also gained the coverted title of Regimental Ironman for two consecutive years. Sam is now a Marketing and Operations Manager for British Military Fitness.

 

Max Kelly

Max was born in Cardiff in 1985 and has enjoyed a varied and diverse life. Max has always had a keen interest in fitness and pursued a career with the Military Preparation College as a Physical Training Instructor. Max has now decided that he wants to further his knowledge and experience and is currently studying a Sports Science degree in University.
